What a fair Finnish lease looks like, and what to check before signing.
Standard lease terms
Most rental agreements are open-ended (toistaiseksi voimassa oleva); fixed-term leases exist but are less common for ordinary apartments.
Deposits
A deposit of one to three months' rent is standard and must be returned promptly (minus any justified deductions) at the end of the tenancy.
Repairs & disputes
Landlords are responsible for structural repairs. If a dispute arises, tenant associations and the Housing Dispute Board can help mediate.
